Prosody

Information taken from Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association (CASNA)

WHAT IS PROSODY?

Prosody is the rhythm or the melody of speech.  Speech patterns are not monotone or robotic in nature.  Our tone, pitch, loudness, and rhythm go up and down when we are trying to convey a message or ask a question.  Prosody can help us tell if someone is mad, happy, sad, or excited by the way their words sound.

WHAT CAUSES DIFFICULTIES WITH PROSODY?

There is no none cause.  However, it is common for individuals who have Autism and for those who have childhood apraxia of speech to have monotone or “flat” speech.

OUR APPROACH AT KEY THERAPIES:

We will develop an individualized treatment plan for each child based off of his / her current needs. Strategies will be given for carry-over of skills to occur.
